The Chemical Industries Council of Malaysia or also known as CICM, was established and incorporated in 1982, as a company limited by guarantee. CICM origins back as an industry group under the aegies of the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM).

Currently, CICM is the umbrella body representing the various sub-sector chemical groups (ranging from oleochemicals, paints, cosmetics and toiletries, fertilizers, petrochemicals, agriculture chemicals, industrial gases and pharmaceutical sectors), following a restructuring exercise in year 2001 to establish a stronger and better representation of the Malaysian chemical industry.

CICM Seminar on Environmentally Hazardous Substances (EHS) Notification and Registration Scheme

The EHS notification and registration scheme is expected to be implemented by the Department of Environment (DOE) beginning year 2009. Manufacturers and importers of EHS and importers of chemical mixtures or finished products that contain EHS as their constituents shall notify and register under this scheme.

The EHS (for the purpose of this notification and registration scheme) is defined as a. substance that is included in the EHS reference list; i.e. based on the EC Annex 1 Substance Directive 67/548 EEC or if is not listed, is assigned a hazard category under the Globally Harmonized System of the classification and labeling (GHS), as implemented by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH)

To provide greater awareness to the industry on this scheme, CICM with the support by the Department of Environment (DOE) will be organising the above-mentioned seminar on October 14, 2008 (Tuesday) at Wisma FMM, Kuala Lumpur.  For more details, please click HERE.

3rd Seminar-cum-Dialogue Session on Complying with REACH Pre-Registration and Registration - October 16, 2008

CICM will be organising another half-day seminar-cum-dialogue session on REACH Pre-Registration and Registration on October 16, 2008 (Thursday). An Only Representative (OR) from the European Union - REACHLaw Ltd has been invited to conduct the seminar-cum-dialogue session with the industry, with the objective to provide further understanding on their obligation to pre-register and register chemicals exported to the European Union (EU).
