A stroll at Lot 10 might take you to a unique bookshop. As you ascend the escalator to the third level, look to your left and you will see through the glass wall, rows and rows of books in a shop. Above the shop, a simple green and orange coloured sign modestly announces the name of the shop,
Page One.
Specialising in books on architecture and design, the clientele of Page One is obvious. However, with more than one thousand titles stocked at the shop, there would surely be an item that would interest each visitor.
Children will be excited with the mini tattoo booklets and postcards with vibrant colours available. Children’s art books can also be found here. Interesting artworks, some more familiar than others but no less attractive, can be found on posters and postcards to thrill art enthusiasts. The posters sit in giant wooden racks where shoppers can flip through to view. To find out more about these works, books on these fields are readily available.
Old magazines on basketball and baseball cards are also available, in mint condition. The books are usually wrapped to protect the quality of the paper and shoppers may ask for the plastic covers to be removed by the staff at the outlet.
The collection of architecture books is vast. Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia regularly reviews books from Page One in the official magazine, Architecture Malaysia (also known as Majalah Akitek). It is not surprising then, to find that architects are regular customers here.
Apart from stocking on books published abroad, Page One also distributes its own books, mostly on interiors. Books on home crafts, gourmet cooking and the sort have found a home in Page One.
Other magazines, especially those covering topics on architecture and interior design often select books that may interest their target audience. Among the magazines are Impiana and Home Concepts.
Page One will soon be incorporated with the Kinokuniya bookshops for wider physical coverage. Since its inception in Singapore, Page One bookshops can now be found in Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Philippines, with distribution centres in Singapore and Thailand.
